Dr Lorna Owen
I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist. I have worked in the NHS for over 10 years across a variety of different areas including adult mental health and paediatric psychology services. I currently work as a Senior Clinical Psychologist within a neuropsychology and physical health team with adults who are living with long-term health conditions or have experienced physical/neuropsychological trauma (e.g. stroke).
Alongside my NHS work, I have set up a private service called Clear Minds Psychology with fellow colleague Dr Sarah Gilbert (Senior Clinical Psychologist)
What I offer
I offer psychological assessment and psychological interventions to individuals 18 year+ struggling with a variety of, or would like insight into their, problems, life challenges/transitions, psychological difficulties and needs. I facilitate people to think through their relationships with themselves and with those around them and help to identify entrenched patterns of behaviour with the aim of providing self insight and psychological skills to manage these difficulties.
For example, although not limited to, mood difficulties (depression and anxiety), stress, obsessive compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. This includes helping people through difficult periods of adjustment such as lifestyle changes and transitions (retirement, parenthood), bereavement, relationship and physical health difficulties.
I integrate a number of psychological approaches and draw on psychological theory to inform how we would work together and to tailor to an individual’s needs. Such approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
I am able to offer flexible evening or weekend appointments and there may be a possibility of daytime appointments.
