Life is often challenging. A recent event may have left you feeling unable to cope; you may be experiencing difficulties in your relationships or you may not know what is wrong, but have a nagging sense of not being okay. In spite of the challenges we face, admitting that we are feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope can seem risky. Reaching out for help can often be the hardest thing to do. However, as I discovered when I was going through a particularly difficult time in my life, making the decision to seek help through counselling can be a huge relief – knowing that you no longer have to face your problems alone.
Having made that difficult decision, choosing a counsellor can be a daunting process. Finding a counsellor with whom you feel comfortable is important and the following information may help you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you.
My therapeutic approach
I am an integrative therapist, drawing on a number of different therapeutic approaches: Person-Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This means that I can be flexible; adapting my approach to best suit the individual needs of each client.
I offer short and long term therapy, which can be either fixed or open ended.
What to expect
My aim is to provide a safe, confidential environment in which you will feel heard without fear of being judged, and where you will feel valued and accepted for who you are. I endeavour to meet you with compassion, warmth and genuineness. My role is not to advise you, but to support you as we explore the issues you bring to counselling. I believe that you should feel in control of what we cover and how we work together in our sessions. I aim to help you to gain a greater understanding of yourself and how you experience life, and to encourage you to tap into your inner resources to make positive change.
I have experience of helping clients work through a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self esteem, stress, self-harm, bereavement and loss through the following therapies:
- Integrative Therapy
- Person-centred Therapy
- Transactional Analysis
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
