I work in private practice as a supervisor and counsellor. I am a Senior Accredited Supervisor and Counsellor (B.A.C.P.) and have a Certificate in Counselling Supervision and M.A. in Counselling. I have been a University Counsellor for twenty years, and have a background in generic Social Work. I have facilitated personal development groups and taught counselling to post-graduate students.
As a counsellor and supervisor, my foundations are very much person-centred: empathy, respect and congruence being vital for this work. I believe the integrative approach enhances the process. I hold a 101Certificate in Transactional Analysis, and am trained in Solution Focused therapy so these both inform my work. I welcome contact and further discussion with anyone thinking of embarking on short or long-term therpy.
I have completed some CPD work in Mindfulness, and often intergrate this within the therapy room if it is helpful to the client in hat moment.
As a supervisor I take into account the three-way relationship: the client, counsellor and supervisor. Whilst it is important to attend to the content and interventions between client and counsellor, other reflections may emerge such as the feelings and non-verbal reactions of the counsellor and how this informs the supervisory relationship. Transference and counter-transference together with the parallel processes all add insight, understanding and dynamics to the relationship. It can be a very exciting journey together!
My knowledge base is a combination of the Hawkins and Shohet (1989) model and the Proctor (1986) model: I believe the supportive, educative and monitoring functions of supervision are very important and these form an integral part of supervisees’ contracts. The best way to find out what I do and how I do it is to contact me on the number below for a further discussion.
I abide by the BACP ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy, and am committed to equality of opportunity.
