"Sometimes, life's challenges can mean that our ability to lead a happy and fulfilling life is taken away. I passionately believe that given the right amount of time and space, people can learn how to help themselves and move forwards" Laura Stelfox, Hope Street Centre Therapist
My name is Laura and I am a Humanistic Person Centred Counsellor. If you are reading this page then it's possible that you are currently experiencing any number of issues that are preventing you from leading the life you want to lead, or being the person you truly want to be.
I believe that you not only the right to feel OK, but also the capacity to help yourself get to where you want to be. The counselling I provide offers a safe and confidential space where you can explore what's happening for you right now, and what changes you can make to move towards a better and more fulfilling life.
About Person Centred Counselling
The Person Centred approach was created by Carl Rogers in the 1950's, and at it's core believes that human beings have the capacity to develop to their full potential. The counsellor must positively value the client as a person in all aspects of their humanity, while aiming to be open and genuine as another human being. This is vital to helping an individual feel accepted and better understand their own feelings - essentially helping them to reconnect with their inner values and sense of self-worth. This reconnection with their inner resources enables them to find their own way to move forward. (Definition from The Counselling Directory).
Using this approach, I will seek over time to understand your unique experience from your point of view. The counselling I offer can help you to gain a greater understanding of yourself, your behaviour and any patterns that might not be serving you. Through this increased awareness you can begin to explore the ways in which you can make better decisions. We work together to explore your choices, however I will work at a pace which is comfortable for you.
When you have a confidential space in which to share your emotions and experiences, you can experience healing. Everything you share with me during our time together is confidential, except in circumstances where I believe that there is a genuine risk of harm to you or another person.
